Directions & attractions
The name Nuneaton derives from the Benedictine Nunnery around which much of the town was built. With a thriving centre and bustling high street, all the essential amenities close at hand. The area is famous as the birthplace of 19th century author George Eliot and close to the field where Richard III met his death at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.
Coventry Cathedral (12 miles)
The ruins of the old Cathedral, completely destroyed by aerial bombardment in November 1942, sit in the grounds of the new modernist St Michael’s Cathedral, opened in 1962. Both are open to visitors daily, and among many noteworthy aspects are the Wooden Cross, made from the scorched timbers of the roof of the old cathedral, and the unconventional spire.
Stratford-upon-Avon (31 miles)
Shakespeare’s birthplace is a deservedly popular tourist attraction in Warwickshire. It takes just 40 minutes to get there from The Longshoot Hotel and you can visit the Shakespeare’s birthplace and the farmhouse cottage where his wife, Anne Hathaway, lived as a child. A beautiful place to visit with delightful bars, restaurants and parks along the River Avon, it’s a highly recommended place to visit when you’re in the area.
The Battle of Bosworth Fields (8 miles)
After the discovery of Richard III’s remains in Leicester, interest in the battlefield where he fought, and lost, his last battle against Henry Tudor in 1485 has risen. Visit the museum and field and you can enjoy re-enactments of the battle throughout the year where the battle took place. This fascinating historical site is just a short 20 minute drive away from The Longshoot Hotel.
Birmingham NEC (20 miles)
The Chase Hotel is just a 25 minute drive away from the National Exhibition Centre. Home of Crufts, the Clothes Show Live, many live pop concerts and exhibitions, The Longshoot is close enough to commute to the NEC if you’re visiting over a few days or just for the night. Once you’re back after a busy day, you can enjoy a meal from the delicious carvery and a drink from the bar.
Kenilworth Castle (17 miles)
Managed by English Heritage, this Grade I listed building is a ruined castle and royal palace with a magnificent Elizabethan Garden. The garden has been authentically recreated exactly as it would have greeted Elizabeth I touring the grounds in 1575, including a bejewelled aviary and marble fountain.
Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo (15 miles)
An excellent day out for all the family, Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo is home to thrill rides including Europe’s only stand-up rollercoaster, plus family attractions such as The Dino Trail, Thomas the Tank Engine Land and Drayton Manor Zoo, with over 100 species. Drayton Manor is less than half an hour’s drive from The Chase Hotel.
