Old Mill Hotel

With old beams, nooks and crannies and an idyllic location next to the tranquil River Sowe, The Old Mill is a former watermill dating back at least to the 16th century in the little village of Baginton in Warwickshire. Situated three miles south of Coventry, and bordered by Rugby, Nuneaton and Royal Leamington Spa, it is a beautiful historic hotel from which to explore these diverse towns and cities, or the rest of Warwickshire and the Midlands.

One of the most conveniently located hotels for Coventry University and Warwick University, and only 20 minutes from Birmingham International Airport too, it is popular with both business travellers and parents visiting their student offspring. Given its peaceful waterside location – the outdoor patio overlooks the River Sowe and the woodlands beyond – the hotel is also a pleasant stop-off destination for tourists. Cyclist in particular will appreciate the network of quiet country lanes nearby, from which you can explore the Warwickshire countryside and even further towards the Cotswolds.

A great hotel for the NEC, Coventry Airport & Birmingham Airport
The Old Mill sits just 3 miles from Coventry Airport, while Birmingham International Airport is only 15 miles – around 20 minutes – from the hotel. It means if you’re going to the airport, either on business or for pleasure, you can be confident of arriving in good time. Similarly, the Birmingham NEC is just 20 minutes away along the A45 – good news for both exhibitors and visitors.

Given its relatively close proximity to Birmingham, Solihull, Nuneaton, Rugby and Coventry, it is little wonder the Old Mill is a favourite stopover for those on business. Yet with its waterside location, tranquil woodland surroundings and ‘olde worlde’ atmosphere, the hotel offers a haven of peace and quiet to all guests, no matter what the purpose of your visit.

Functions, conferences and events at The Old Mill
The Old Mill boasts an excellent conference room, the Gray Lady Suite, which overlooks the tranquil River Sowe. Its picturesque location makes it the ideal venue for a variety of functions, from wedding receptions and parties to conferences, exhibitions and meetings. About Baginton

Baginton is a small village in Warwickshire, four miles south of Coventry and seven miles north of Leamington Spa, with a history dating back over 1,000 years.  The road that runs from Baginton to South Coventry is what will take you to the Old Mill and across the River Sowe.

A 500-year-old oak tree the ‘Baginton Oak’ sits in the centre of the village and there is an old local proverb about a boy called Elliot who would sit under the oak tree when he had to ponder a complicated decision.

The Church of St John the Baptist, which sits in the old part of Baginton dates back to the 13th century. There is a scenic footpath which leads the ambitious walker all the way to the picturesque village of Stoneleigh through some beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

The River Sowe flows through Baginton and on its southern side, the remains of a Roman fort can be found on the bank. The Sowe Valley Footpath runs along the river for over 8 miles, through a number of attractive nature reserves.

Lunt Roman Fort (0.2 miles)

This timber fort dating back to A.D. 60 was discovered when large quantities of Roman pottery were found in the 1930s. Now partially reconstructed, it affords the visitor the opportunity to stand on the ramparts, explore the old granary and picture preparing for battle! The views from the top of the fort are stunning and eagle-eyed visitors can even spot the city of Coventry some four miles away.

Midlands Air Museum (0.9 miles)

This unique aeronautical collection began in 1967 when a group of local aircraft enthusiasts began putting together a series of books, photos and plane parts. Today it is home to over 45 aircraft, including the stunning Vulcan bomber, Gloster Meteor jet fighter and the Jet Heritage Centre devoted to Sir Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine.

Coventry Transport Museum (2.6 miles)

Discover the largest collection of British road transport in the world. Royal cars, military vehicles, iconic motorcycles, Richard Noble’s extraordinary Thrust SSC  – holder of the world land speed record – you’ll find them all at the Coventry Transport Museum. Star exhibits include Triumph Bonneville and Tiger motorcycles, landmark British cars such as the Reliant Scimitar GTE and Singer Gazelle, and Princess Diana’s cherished red Austin Mini Metro.

Ansty Golf Course (3 miles)

Sprawling across 150 acres of stunning Warwickshire countryside, keen golfers will love Ansty’s gently undulating topography, pretty views and lovingly manicured putting greens. Just 3 miles from the Old Mill, it is close enough to guarantee you can enjoy a round on the morning and be back in time for a delicious lunch in our restaurant.

Royal Leamington Spa (7 miles)

Known for the healing properties of its waters since Roman times, Leamington Spa enjoyed a boom in the early 19th Century when much of the beautiful Georgian town centre took shape. The Royal Pump Room and Baths first opened in 1814 and in 1838 Queen Victoria granted the ‘Royal’’ prefix. Modern day Royal Leamington Spa has over 400 shops on attractive boulevards, including many independent retailers, restaurants and salons.

Coventry Cathedral (3.5 miles)

The ruins of the old Cathedral, completely destroyed by aerial bombardment in November 1942, sit in the grounds of the new modernist St Michael’s Cathedral, opened in 1962. Both are open to visitors daily, and among many noteworthy aspects are the Wooden Cross, made from the scorched timbers of the roof of the old cathedral, and the unconventional spire.

Warwick Castle (10 miles)

This stunning English landmark encompassing over 11 centuries of history is a must-visit for history buffs and families. With attractions including Merlin’s Dragon Tower, the Castle Dungeon and the world’s biggest working trebuchet siege engine, there is something for everyone at Warwick Castle.
